Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs in Middletown, OH is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co‑op to support maintenance and project work. Under supervision, you will assist in predictive and preventive maintenance, read blueprints, analyze performance, and help plan and cost-control engineering projects, with assignments varying by education level and site.

This internship offers hands-on experience with industry leaders, opportunities to design, install, modernize equipment, and potentially transition to full-time

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related technical degree.
  • Sophomore year completion by Summer 2027.
  • U.S. work authorization required for internship.

As an intern/co-op with Cleveland-Cliffs, you will build life-long professional connections and have the opportunity to be considered for future full-time employment.As a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern’s education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below. Under the guidance of appropriate supervisory personnel, a mechanical engineering intern will utilize engineering and technology principles to assist in the performance of engineering duties.Summary of Responsibilities:Recommend and/or perform predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance of equipmentResearch, design, evaluate, install, modernize, re-design, operate, maintain, and repair machinery and equipmentResolve equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown actionParticipate in planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance/engineering projectsRead and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reportsAnalyze current operating performance and standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvementVarious other projects as needed to support the businessMinimum Qualifications:Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or other related technical degreeCompletion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.Cleveland-Cliffs is a leading North America-based steel producer with focus on value-added sheet products, particularly for the automotive industry.
