Responsibilities

  • Software development in various programming languages on diverse hardware platforms.
  • Maintenance of computer hardware and software; troubleshooting automation system issues.
  • Modify automation to adapt to new products and processes and improve reliability.
  • Work with measurement systems (vision, RFID, X-ray, gauges) and databases; support networking and data transmission.
  • Coordinate with production, R&D, and other staff; respond to routine and emergency requests.

As an intern/co-op with Cleveland-Cliffs, you will build life-long professional connections and have the opportunity to be considered for future full-time employment.As a Process Control Engineering Co-Op at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern’s education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below.Summary of Responsibilities:Software development in a variety of programming languages and on a variety of hardware platformsMaintenance of computer hardware and softwareMaintenance and problem solving of all aspects of the automation systemModifications to the automation system to adapt to new products and processesAddress issues that may impact production or system reliabilityProcess modeling for mill processes of a chemical, metallurgical and mechanical natureAdministration of a variety of Operating Systems and relational databases on workstations and serversWork with complex measurement systems, such as:Vision systems for product qualityThermal imaging temperature measurementsRFID and barcode tag reading for product identificationX-ray, nuclear gauges, and other gauging systemsWork with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission, and specialty interfacesClose coordination with a production departmentRespond to routine and emergency requestsManage local area project, task, and priority listsMake recommendations for system and process improvementsWork with vendors on products and performance issuesCoordinating with Research and Development and other staff departmentsMinimum Qualifications:Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related technical degreeCompletion of sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.Cleveland-Cliffs is a leading North America-based steel producer with focus on value-added sheet products, particularly for the automotive industry.
