Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City, MO is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join project teams and lead mechanical design for new projects, alterations and redevelopments across power, process, pipeline, industrial, manufacturing, government and military facilities. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience required, consulting experience preferred.
Bachelor's degree in mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience required, consulting experience preferred.
Master's degree in mechanical engineering and 2 years of mechanical engineering experience required, consulting experience preferred.
Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE). Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
Ability to travel.
Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
Prepare mechanical equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings; data interface with suppliers, clients other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.
Develop project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning; manage change orders.
Apply knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, codes and procedures.
Develop non-standard design solutions for complex projects.
Quality review production drawings and project data for compliance.
Coordinate construction administration with field personnel to resolve installation issues, calculations, inspections and testing.
Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
Prepare and present technical reports for clients and publications.
Build relationships with clients and contractors; identify new business opportunities.
Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
Develop cost proposals and qualification statements for targets and standards.
Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates; report performance.
Collaborate with mechanical engineering practice; mentor junior engineers.
Ensure QA/QC process adherence and cross-discipline communication.
Adhere to safety policies and perform other duties as assigned.
