Job summary

Mission Critical Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to develop manufacturable designs of sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and copper bus assemblies for low- to medium-voltage switchgear. You will work under senior engineers to ensure designs meet customer requirements and regulatory standards.

You will collaborate with electrical designers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel to understand switchgear design and fabrication processes, while contributing to BOMs,

Qualifications

• 3-7 years of progressive mechanical design experience in switchgear, power distribution equipment, or related electrical equipment manufacturing.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with sheet metal design, structural assemblies, and conductive bus bar design for low- to medium-voltage applications.
• Proficiency with AutoDesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience preparing parts lists, bills of materials, and assembly drawings for manufacturing.
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, including sheet metal fabrication and machining.
• Familiarity with product lifecycle management and quality control concepts.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and integrity.
• Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate proportions, dimensions, and tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D models and drawings of sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and bus assemblies using CAD software, specifically AutoDesk Inventor.
• Ensure designs align with manufacturability, customer specifications, safety, and regulatory requirements, with review and guidance from senior engineering staff.
• Collaborate with electrical designers to integrate structural and copper bus elements into customer drawing packages.
• Support cross-functional teams, including project management, manufacturing, sales, estimating, and field service, in project execution and technical issue resolution.
• Prepare bills of materials, assembly drawings, and cut sheets to support manufacturing in a timely and efficient manner.
• Learn to identify opportunities to reduce cycle time by reusing or adapting existing designs where applicable.
• Contribute to design reviews and process improvements under the direction of senior engineers.
• Develop working knowledge of switchgear manufacturing processes, sheet metal fabrication, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
