Job summary

The Mechanical Engineer 2 designs sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and copper bus assemblies for low-to-medium voltage switchgear, collaborating with electrical designers and cross-functional teams to meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of progressive mechanical design experience in switchgear or related electrical equipment manufacturing.
• 2+ years of sheet metal design, structural assemblies, and conductor bus bar design for low-to medium voltage.
• Proficient with AutoDesk Inventor; experience with other 3D CAD tools is a plus.
• Experience preparing BOMs, assembly drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability.
• Ability to lead complex mechanical design projects and collaborate cross-functionally.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP/MRP systems (IFS, SAP) preferred.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D models and drawings of sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and bus assemblies using AutoDesk Inventor.
• Ensure designs meet manufacturability, customer specs, safety, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with electrical designers to integrate structural and copper bus elements into drawings.
• Partner cross-functionally to support project execution and resolve technical issues.
• Prepare bills of materials, assembly drawings, and cut sheets for manufacturing.
• Reduce cycle time by reusing or adapting existing designs.
• Contribute to design reviews and process improvements to enhance quality and reliability.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and engineers.
