Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT, seeks a Test Equipment Development engineer to support test and evaluation programs for non-nuclear ship systems. You will collaborate with design and materials teams to update drawings and develop temporary fluid-handling systems for shipboard tests at Groton and QP facilities.

The role involves performing engineering calculations, supporting construction phases, and providing rapid deck-plate guidance, with potential travel to QP sites and weekend

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or higher or related technical degree.
  • 1-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with design and materials engineering teams to develop or update engineered drawings that align with test procedures and ship system requirements.
  • Design and/or support the procurement of temporary support systems required to deliver temporary services to shipboard systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations for temporary fluid systems and fixtures, including pressure, flow, and stress analyses, using Mathcad and other engineering software.
  • Develop a broad understanding of shipboard systems to provide engineering support throughout all phases of construction.
  • Provide technical guidance and rapid deck-plate support to the shipyard test organization for resolving test issues at Groton and Quonset Point (QP) facilities.
  • Prepare vendor requisitions (VREQs) and issue dispositions for vendor information requests (VIRs) related to materials governed by the group's drawings.
  • Support emergent work that may require occasional extended hours and weekend availability.
  • Travel as needed to QP and other facilities to support air flask testing and additional test evolutions.
