Job summary

SpaceX seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join the Starlink Battery team, focusing on battery pack-level design for satellites. You will optimize cell-to-pack integration, energy density, and manufacturability while ensuring reliable operation in Low Earth Orbit.

Responsibilities include packaging thousands of 2170-format cells, CAD/FEA analyses, design trades for Wh/kg, DFMEAs, and coordinating with manufacturing to deliver from concept to launch.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering or STEM field.
• Experience with CAD and FEA software packages.
• 1+ years of battery pack design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Design satellite battery packs that integrate thousands of 2170-format cells at high voltage.
• Perform CAD & analysis of mechanical, electrical, and thermal performance across ground and on-orbit.
• Drive design trades to maximize Wh/kg and minimize $/kWh with manufacturability and fault tolerance.
• Conduct DFMEAs and root-cause analyses for long-term reliability.
• Validate designs via vibration, thermal, environmental, and vacuum tests.
