Job summary

Hamilton Company, a Charlottesville, VA–based subsidiary Cerillo, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and refine mechanical architecture for compact microplate readers. You will work with electrical and optical engineers to create precise enclosures, ensure manufacturability, and support production from concept through release.

Qualifications

• Experience designing precision optical or electro-optical instrument housings and component mounts.
• Knowledge of sealing and environmental protection design (IP ratings, gaskets, adhesives).
• Strong command of GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards.
• Hands-on prototyping methods: CNC, sheet metal, injection molding, and 3D printing.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical components, assemblies, and enclosures for Cerillo's microplate reader product family using 3D CAD.
• Create engineering drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Lead prototype development including fabrication, assembly, and testing of subassemblies.
• Define mechanical testing protocols for structural, thermal, sealing and environmental robustness.
