Job summary

Cerillo, a Hamilton Company subsidiary, seeks an Optical Engineer to design, develop, and qualify precision optical systems for compact multi-wavelength absorbance microplate readers. You will select components, build mounts, and collaborate with electrical and mechanical teams to ensure high sensitivity and robustness in a fast-paced lab environment.

Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of optical theory including photometry, radiometry, geometric optics, interference, stray light analysis.
  • Proficiency in optical design and simulation software (Zemax OpticStudio, FRED, or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience designing and assembling precision optical systems with alignment and verification.
  • Experience with absorbance-based photometric measurement systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of photodetector technologies and optomechanical interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop precision optical systems for compact multi-wavelength absorbance readers.
  • Determine optical specifications and system requirements per product design.
  • Select, evaluate, and qualify optical components and subsystems.
  • Design mechanical mounts and alignment fixtures for stable optical alignment.
  • Develop repeatable alignment procedures for photometric performance across wavelengths.
  • Build inspection tools and test setups to characterize performance and detect aberrations.
  • Perform optical modeling and simulations to guide design decisions (Zemax, FRED).
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers on integration and interfaces.
  • Develop test methods and acceptance criteria for production and qualification.
  • Troubleshoot optical issues; implement corrective actions and documentation.
  • Support regulatory documentation and optical safety assessments; contribute to roadmaps.
