Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Michigan-based Power Generation team. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will work within a multi-discipline group to support power and energy projects across utility, IPP, industrial, institutional, and municipal sectors.

Preferred candidates will have hands-on experience with design of power generation fluid systems and the ability to mentor others; travel is typically less than 10% to sites and conferences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or required by location.
• Experience with commercial or institutional facilities design.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical equipment and piping sizing for power generation projects.
• Equipment and piping layout considerations and system design.
• Prepare construction documents (P&IDs, layout drawings, specifications).
• Review vendor/submittals and coordinate with vendors/contractors.
• Perform technical writing, reports, and procurement specs.
• Conduct site visits and assist with project planning and budgeting.
• Travel up to 10% for site surveys and client meetings.
