Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Michigan-based Power Generation team. You will work on power and energy projects across utility, IPP, industrial, institutional, and municipal sectors in a collaborative multi-discipline environment.

Responsibilities include mechanical design, documentation, vendor coordination, and site visits. The role offers growth from mechanical/lead engineer toward project management, with travel typically under 10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings.
• Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (PE).
• Experience in commercial or institutional facilities.
• MS Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, manufacturer selection software.
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• Active participation in our employee-owned culture is essential.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical equipment/pipe sizing and layout considerations.
• Develop construction documents (P&IDs, system layout/installation drawings/specifications).
• Engineer/equipment vendor submittal reviews; vendor/contractor communications.
• Technical writing (reports, procurement specs).
• Code reviews; site visits; project planning and budgeting/scheduling.
• Travel for site surveys and meetings; travel typically <10%.
