Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Michigan-based Power Generation team. You will lead design and engineering efforts across industrial and utility-scale projects, coordinating with disciplines and stakeholders.

The role emphasizes ownership of mechanical design, drawings, analyses, and cost estimates, with travel to sites and conferences. You will contribute to projects in traditional and renewable technologies, leveraging strong leadership and communication

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in power markets.
• Professional Engineering license recognized in the location of the position.
• Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit, etc.).
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the project mechanical team, coordinating with other engineering disciplines.
• Monitor and communicate project status to stakeholders.
• Provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects at both technical and contractual levels.
• Develop construction drawings, bid specifications, pipe stress analyses, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.
• Plan, schedule, and lead design projects for industrial- and utility-scale power generation systems and equipment.
• Support projects across simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, RICE, CHP, and renewable technologies.
• Travel for site surveys, technical conferences, client meetings, and construction monitoring—typically less than 10% of time.
