Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Responsible for designing and developing technical systems for large, complex projects from schematics through construction administration.

TYPICAL DUTIES - PROJECT RELATED

  1. Lead the development of building system concepts and documentation from schematic design to construction administration within the discipline.
  2. Serve as Discipline Team Leader on large, complex projects when assigned.
  3. Oversee and direct project team members within the discipline.
  4. Prepare and monitor project status reports.
  5. Conduct code research and document findings for projects.
  6. Assist in developing the project cost model and ensure design adherence to it.
  7. Maintain the Mechanical Basis of Design Journal throughout the project.
  8. Conduct material and product research as needed for project development.
  9. Participate in project meetings as required.
  10. Coordinate with other Discipline Team Leaders.
  11. Respond to client questions and requests within 24 hours.
  12. Review and interpret documents and submittals during bidding and construction phases.
  13. Ensure quality architectural and engineering services within the project team.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

TYPICAL DUTIES - NON-PROJECT RELATED

  1. Mentor support engineers to prepare them for greater responsibilities.
  2. Provide performance feedback to supervisors.
  3. Identify and participate in quality and service improvements.
  4. Engage in in-house training activities.
  5. Participate in professional organizations and activities.
  6. Acknowledge staff members who demonstrate exceptional work or go beyond their job expectations.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor's degree and licensure are required.
  2. LEED accreditation is preferred.
  3. Minimum of six years' experience in the A/E industry.
  4. Extensive knowledge of all phases of professional services from schematic design through project close-out.
  5. Strong understanding of coordination across all design disciplines.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational abilities.
  7. Ability to motivate, mentor staff, and delegate tasks effectively.
  8. Proficiency in computer applications and CADD.
  9. Detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and adaptable.
  10. Ability to work collaboratively under deadlines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Willingness to travel to project sites for meetings and site evaluations.
  2. Ability to access and evaluate existing and new project sites.
  3. Use of communication and documentation equipment.
  4. Visual acuity to perform responsibilities effectively.
