Job summary

SMS group in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a Mechanical Designer/ Drafter to provide design and drafting support for continuous casting sales projects in the NAFTA market, and to offer aftermarket service proposals. This onsite role requires collaboration with sales, engineering and automation teams.

Responsibilities include selecting references for proposals, creating layout drawings, managing layout work, coordinating across design departments, and liaising with customers for domestic references.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent experience in mechanical design and drafting.
• Minimum 5 years experience with industrial steelmaking equipment and facilities.
• Experience in continuous casting design preferred.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

• Determine which equipment references will be used for proposal creation with Sales/Engineering/Automation.
• Create layout drawings and engineering investigations for sales projects.
• Manage layout work for proposal preparation.
• Select and adapt reference equipment for new efforts.

Summary

Responsible for providing design and drafting support for continuous casting sales projects in the NAFTA market, provide aftermarket support in the form of service and revamp proposals, and to represent the company's interests in general.

What you'll do

• In conjunction with the Sales Managers, Engineering Department and Automation Department, determine which equipment references will be used for proposal
  creation
• Create layout drawings and engineering investigations in support of sales projects
• Management of layout work for proposal preparation
• Select and adapt appropriate reference equipment to use as a basis for new efforts
• Coordination of layout efforts amongst different design departments, when necessary
• Customer support / liaison of the company's domestic reference

What you'll need

• Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent experience in mechanical design and drafting required
• Minimum 5 years experience working with industrial steelmaking equipment and facilities.
• Specific experience in continuous casting design preferred.
• Candidates must be self-motivated and display creativity, strong problem-solving skills, good communication skills and work well in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team
