Job summary

Uni-Systems Engineering, Inc. is seeking a motivated Junior Mechanical Engineer in Plymouth, MN. The role involves design and engineering tasks, coordinating with drafters and engineers both internally and externally to deliver operable, world‑renowned structures.

You will perform CAD sketching and analysis, and handle engineering calculations, with opportunities to develop while supporting diverse projects from design through installation and commissioning.

Qualifications

  • 0-2 years’ experience with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification or plan to take FE exam is preferred.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks and Mathcad; ability to apply analysis/design software.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer components and mechanical systems with drawings and specs.
  • Participate in design reviews with contractors, architects, and engineers.
  • Review prototypes and perform testing of new assemblies/structures.
  • Perform QA inspections at manufacturing/fabrication shops before shipment.
  • Provide project status updates for reviews and meetings.
  • Stay current with codes and requirements for mechanical engineering.
  • Support Uni-Systems Sales and Marketing with technical input.
  • Monitor design costs and progress to align with budgets and schedules.

**This position requires access to export-controlled technical data subject to U.S. export control laws (including ITAR). Therefore, candidates must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident).

Job Summary

Uni-Systems Engineering is looking for a motivated Junior Mechanical Engineer that has the internal drive to change the moving world around them while pushing themselves to develop at the same time. This individual will have the opportunity to play a key role in creating world renown operable structures that are highly visible to the public eye. This position will perform design and engineering tasks, and coordinate work with drafters and engineers both within and outside the company. Responsibilities include CAD sketching and analysis, in addition to engineering calculations.


The person in this role may be responsible for project engineering on small to medium-sized projects from design development through installation and commissioning.


Job Responsibilities


  • Design and engineer components and mechanical systems. Includes design calculations/ documentation, design sketches, drawings (design phase and final drawings), and writing material and performance specifications.

  • Actively participate in scheduled design reviews with contractors, architects, engineering consultants, and other project team members.

  • Review and participate in prototype testing of new assemblies/structures.

  • Perform QA inspections at manufacturing and fabrication shops before shipment to job site.

  • Provide project status updates as required for Project Review and other company meetings.

  • Stay current with codes and requirements that apply to specific engineering disciplines.

  • Provide technical expertise to support Uni-Systems Sales and Marketing efforts.

  • If applicable, monitor project design costs and progress to ensure that approved project budget and schedule goals are achieved. Facilitate client communication.

  • Drive continuous improvement by finding ways to enhance quality and performance with shop and field assembly, adjustment, function, aesthetics, costs, and maintenance.


Job Requirements


  • Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR due to access to export-controlled technical data.

  • 0-2 years’ experience with B.S. Degree from an ABET accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering

  • Engineer-in-Training certification, or plans to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, preferred.

  • Knowledge of current codes, standards, and requirements applicable to the mechanical engineering discipline.

  • Proficiency in analysis and design software relevant to the business.

  • Results-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, employees, vendors, and customers.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing work.

  • Ability to apply sound judgment and problem-solving skills to complex projects and business challenges.

  • Experience incorporating client input to develop innovative and creative solutions to multifaceted problems preferred.

  • Familiarity with engineering software, particularly SolidWorks and Mathcad, preferred.

  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques and experience working in a machine shop environment preferred.

  • Exposure to mechanical equipment and systems, along with a general hands-on aptitude, preferred.
