Job summary

KFI Engineers is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III in Cincinnati, OH to lead central plant utility designs across chilled water, hot water, steam and hydronic systems. The role requires collaboration with multi-discipline teams and active involvement in proposals, budgeting, and client engagement.

Strong communication and mentorship are essential for delivering quality outcomes. The candidate will coordinate P&IDs, layouts, reports, and equipment selections, while supporting business development

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
• Minimum of 7 years of Mechanical Engineering experience.
• Proficient in designing utility generation and distribution systems (chilled water, hot water, steam, hydronic).
• Experience coordinating drawings across multiple disciplines (A/E/C).
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit; strong report and drawing submittal skills.
• Ability to travel up to 25% domestically.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of chilled water, heating hot water, steam, and hydronic systems for central plants and campuses.
• Develop and review P&IDs, layouts, and technical reports.
• Perform pipe stress analysis support for utility designs.
• Coordinate designs with architecture, structural, electrical, and civil disciplines.
• Prepare equipment specs and lead procurement coordination.
• Develop project estimates and assist in budgeting and invoicing.
• Support project planning and resource allocation; mentor junior staff.
