The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction, purchasing and contracting for goods and services, maintaining facilities, managing state vehicles, acquiring and disposing of real property, and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally, the department manages many of the state's advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the state's population that have been traditionally underserved.
The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for a Mechanical Engineer for our State Construction Division. The State Construction Office (SCO) is responsible for the administration of planning, design and construction of all state facilities, including the university and community college systems. The division also provides the architectural and engineering services necessary to carry out the capital improvement program for all state institutions and agencies.

Working knowledge of principles and practices of Building Systems Mechanical Engineering, NC State Building Codes and Industry Standards, General Construction policies and guidelines, building construction and operations.
Discernment of discrepancies in technical documents or data and provide objective professional opinions and judgments when presented factual data. Familiar with industry design reference standards such as ASHRAE and NFPA and engineering development trends. Skilled in time management, communicating technical information to others, technical writing and written communication, constructive negotiations, and public speaking. Experience in Construction Administration and program/project management. Proficient with computer software and computer drawing packages.

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Requirement: Registration as a North Carolina Professional Engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
