RFT Reserve, LA, US

5 days ago Requisition ID: 1052

Mechanical Engineer

Reserve, LA (Headquarters) | Full-Time | Salary: Commensurate with experience

About DSC

DSC Dredge is a world leader in portable cutter suction dredges engineering and manufacturing equipment for aggregate mining and sand & gravel production, environmental remediation, coastal restoration, navigational maintenance, and marine construction across the U.S. and in more than 50 countries worldwide. We operate from our headquarters in Reserve, Louisiana and our manufacturing facility in Poplarville, Mississippi.

The Role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop the structural and mechanical components, equipment, and machinery behind our dredge builds. You will serve as the single point of contact across assigned projects — coordinating with Engineering, Production, Sales, and the client to keep designs, schedules, and deliverables on track from concept through manufacturing.

What You Will Do
  • Serve as single point of contact on assigned dredge project(s), coordinating with other Engineering disciplines, Production, Sales, and the client to ensure the highest quality of service
  • Design and develop structural and mechanical components, equipment, and machinery, including sourcing, volume models, and key performance parameters
  • Create and refine technical parts and assembly drawings that capture design intent and document what's needed to accomplish manufacturing goals
  • Manage electrical parts used within mechanical design models (PCBs, connectors, plugs, layout control models) and coordinate interface details with the electrical engineering team
  • Create and maintain the Bill of Materials, release packages, and design history files for assigned projects
  • Conduct root cause analysis and manage resolution of engineering issues, including any required design changes to existing equipment
  • Maintain ongoing project requirements and specifications, review team design work for quality, and provide technical guidance to designers and drafters
  • Participate in schedule development during the initial sales effort and partner with the Scheduler to keep schedules updated throughout the project
  • Provide engineering support to Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Sales, and other departments to improve operational efficiency and meet compliance requirements
  • Visit customer sites as required to support engineering challenges and translate customer requirements into technical specifications
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)
  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience in industrial, manufacturing, or heavy equipment environments
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of current API standards for rotating equipment, particularly centrifugal pumps, centrifugal compressors, and auxiliary systems
  • PE licensure preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong organizational ability
  • Proven collaborator who can work with minimal supervision and takes ownership of decisions and outcomes
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required, and to take calls during off hours to support client objectives
Why DSC
  • No two builds are the same — every project is engineered to a specific application, site, and operating environment, which means genuinely varied and technically demanding work
  • Immediate, visible impact - the components and systems you design are fabricated, tested and commissioned on job sites across the U.S. and around the world.
  • A business at record production levels - sustained demand means career stability and a pipeline of substantive work
  • Real engineering authority - mechanical engineers take ownership in assigned components and systems from concept through release not just execute drafting requests elsewhere.
  • Deep technical mentorship and decades of institutional knowledge - in a company small enough that your work is recognized and contribution matters.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Base salary: commensurate with experience
  • Health, dental, vision insurance & short-term disability
  • Company-paid basic life insurance & long-term disability
  • 401k retirement plan with company match
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • PE licensure support including examination fees, study resources, and continuing education

This role is primarily office-based, with regular time on the manufacturing floor. You’ll work alongside fabrication teams, operate comfortably around heavy equipment and industrial operations, and may be exposed to noise, fumes, and outdoor conditions. Occasionally travel to vendor facilities, job sites, or customer locations. It’s a hands-on environment and that’s part of what makes the work so compelling.
