DREDGE SUPERINTENDENT

Full Time FIELD Port Lavaca, TX, US

We are seeking an experienced Dredge Superintendent to oversee the day-to-day operations of maintenance dredging projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing dredging crews, coordinating vessel and equipment activities, ensuring safe and efficient production, and maintaining compliance with all environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements. This position serves as the primary field leader, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Essential Functions

  • Direct and supervise daily dredging operations to ensure safe, efficient, and productive performance.
  • Coordinate dredge crew activities, support vessels, subcontractors, and equipment to meet project schedules.
  • Monitor dredging production rates, operational performance, and project progress.
  • Ensure compliance with all HSE, environmental, USCG, OSHA, and company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs for dredges, support vessels, and associated equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions to maintain production goals.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, production logs, equipment records, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, clients, engineers, surveyors, and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, manpower allocation, and equipment utilization.
  • Monitor project costs and recommend improvements to increase operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Ensure material quantities, production reports, and project documentation are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Upholds the Company's commitment to an injury-free workplace by leading and modeling safe work practices.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures.
  • Works safely around heavy equipment and marine vessels; ensures proper use of equipment and required PPE.
  • Ensures team members are provided a safe work environment and are knowledgeable of safe work practices and company policies.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots, and escalates operational, equipment, and project issues as needed.
  • Attends project coordination and management meetings to communicate production, schedule, and operational status.
  • Schedules field activities according to project timelines to ensure successful project completion.
  • Reviews contractor performance and ensures work complies with contract requirements and project specifications.
  • Assists with review and approval of invoices for subcontracted services after verifying work has been completed as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8–10 years of dredging or marine construction experience, including at least 3–5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Extensive knowledge of maintenance dredging operations, dredging methods, and marine construction practices.
  • Experience operating or supervising cutter suction dredges, trailing suction hopper dredges, booster pumps, or backhoe dredges preferred.
  • Strong understanding of marine equipment maintenance, vessel operations, and production management.
  • Working knowledge of HSE standards, OSHA regulations, USCG requirements, and environmental compliance.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise, mentor, and develop field personnel.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining project schedules and production goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, contractors, and team members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with daily reporting, production tracking, and project documentation.
  • Motivated, organized, and able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and make independent decisions in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Functional Job Description.
  • Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment screening (including drug testing and fit testing) as well as random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record (MVR).
