Rocket Lab in Silver Spring, Maryland is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to lead development of electromechanical space systems from concept to production on aggressive timelines.

You will design mechanisms in CAD/FEA, manage requirements and risk, mentor engineers, and collaborate across teams to ensure performance across interfaces. This role offers competitive base pay, equity, and comprehensive benefits; base pay range MD only: $80,000–$100,000, with travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field.
• 2+ years in aerospace mechanical development.
• CAD and FEA proficiency.
• Familiar with aerospace standards and verification tests.
• Experience leading cross-team projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of electromechanical space mechanisms from concept to production.
• Design mechanisms and structures in CAD; perform hand calcs and FEA.
• Define and verify requirements; ensure traceability and validation.
• Prepare system design descriptions, CONOPS, and ICDs.
• Create verifications matrices and risk management plans.
• Improve engineering processes and best practices.
• Generate reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across interfaces.
• Manage development schedules and milestone reviews.
• Mentor engineers and support proposals and off-site work.
• Travel to suppliers and customers; ~10%.
