Rocket Lab in Silver Spring, MD is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer I to lead the development of electromechanical space mechanisms from concept through production. You will design and analyze mechanisms in CAD, drive requirements verification, and mentor other engineers as part of a high-impact aerospace team.

The role demands 5+ years in aerospace mechanical development, CAD/FEA proficiency, and knowledge of aerospace standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of aerospace mechanical development experience.
• CAD and FEA proficiency.
• Understanding of aerospace standards, environments, tests and requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead schedule-aggressive development of space mechanisms from concept to production.
• Design mechanisms and structures in CAD and analyze with hand calcs and FEA.
• Define requirements, traceability, compliance, verification and validation.
• Prepare and maintain system design descriptions, CONOPS and ICDs.
• Create and maintain requirements verification matrices and risk plans.
• Contribute to improvements in engineering processes and best practices.
• Generate technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure proper system interfaces.
• Own development schedules, milestones, and technical reviews.
• Mentor other engineers.
• Support proposals and SOWs; travel to suppliers/customers as needed ( ~10% ).
