Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks an outstanding researcher/engineer with expertise in solid-phase processing to join a world-class materials program in Richland, WA. You will advance next-generation metals manufacturing for energy, defense, and industry by studying microstructure evolution under high-strain processing.

This hands-on role covers friction stir welding/processing, tool design, and prototype equipment; collaborate with scientists, engineers, and industry partners

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience, or higher degrees.
• Demonstrated expertise in one or more solid-phase processing technologies.
• Hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment and materials testing.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with advanced solid-phase processing equipment and materials characterization.
• Design, develop, and optimize manufacturing equipment and tooling for research use.
• Coordinate fabrication activities with machinists and engineers.
• Develop processing parameters and workflows for multiple technologies.
• Prepare reports, publications, and sponsor deliverables.
• Lead portions of proposals and technical documents.
