Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Corrections, seeks a Mechanical Engineer 2 in Mechanicsburg to design and review mechanical systems that support safe, secure facilities.

You will prepare drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and coordinate with agencies; travel statewide and participate in on-site reviews. After training, telework up to 3 days per week may be available, with PA residence required.

Qualifications

• One year as Mechanical Engineer 1 or two years of professional mechanical engineering experience with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
• Two years of professional mechanical engineering experience with structural mechanical systems plus EIT certification may be considered.
• You must hold a Professional Engineer license issued by the PA State Board.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare mechanical drawings, specifications, and calculations for construction and renovation work.
• Develop cost estimates through project phases to support planning and bidding.
• Assist field inspection personnel by resolving technical issues at institutions.
• Evaluate contractor data such as shop drawings and test reports and recommend actions.
• Investigate and address mechanical system concerns through inspections and problem-solving.
• Collaborate with other agencies during studies and surveys to assess departmental needs.

Education

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering

Engineer‑in‑Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
