Job summary

GAL Manufacturing, a Vantage Elevation company, in Bronx, NY seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer II – Sustainment to support full product lifecycle, including design changes, testing, validation, and continuous improvement of mechanical elevator components.

You will work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to implement DF M/DF A and Lean principles, ensuring regulatory compliance and robust documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
• 2–4 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in product development, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
• Experience designing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through testing and production implementation.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software; Autodesk Inventor experience is a plus; ability to prepare detailed 2D drawings.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawings, and mechanical design standards.
• Understanding of DFM, DFA, and Lean manufacturing principles.
• Experience with engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, material selection, and mechanical component design.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, casting, and/or assembly.
• Experience developing and executing product testing and validation plans.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
• Ability to interpret and apply technical standards, codes, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong documentation skills: drawings, specs, BOMs, and change documentation.
• Effective verbal and written communication across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and other teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Willingness to understand elevator systems, codes, and certification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Initiating and supporting engineering change processes (PCOs, ECOs) and related docs.
• Designing, improving, testing, and validating mechanical components and hardware for elevator systems.
• Creating and maintaining engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs.
• Developing mechanical designs using 3D CAD and ensuring manufacturability and performance.
• Applying DFM, DFA, and Lean principles throughout development and sustainment.
• Performing engineering calculations, tolerance stack analysis, and cost analysis to guide design decisions.
• Developing prototypes, coordinating testing, analyzing results, and proposing design improvements.
• Supporting product improvement from concept through validation and production rollout.
• Ensuring compliance with elevator codes, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and certifications.
• Providing technical support to manufacturing facilities and troubleshooting production issues.
• Investigating failures, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
• Identifying opportunities to improve quality, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
• Collaborating with suppliers and manufacturing partners on specs, quality, and changes.
• Working cross-functionally with Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain.
• Leading cross-functional sustainment meetings and document releases.

We are searching for a Mechanical Engineer II – Sustainment to join our GAL Manufacturing Engineering team at Vantage Elevation.

You’ll play a hands-on role in supporting the full product lifecycle, including design changes, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of mechanical hardware and components for elevator systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution
• 2–4 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, preferably within a product development, manufacturing, or industrial environment
• Experience designing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through testing and production implementation
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software, with Autodesk Inventor experience considered a plus, and experience preparing detailed 2D engineering drawings
• Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), engineering drawings, and mechanical design standards
• Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Lean manufacturing principles
• Experience with engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, material selection, and mechanical component design
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, casting, and/or assembly
• Experience developing and executing product testing and validation plans
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis
• Ability to interpret and apply technical standards, codes, specifications, and regulatory requirements
• Strong technical documentation skills, including engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering change documentation
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and other functional teams
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a deadline-driven environment
• Ability and willingness to develop a thorough understanding of elevator systems, applicable elevator codes, and certification requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the elevator industry or with electro-mechanical equipment
• Basic knowledge of electrical design concepts
• Knowledge of Vault document management and ERP systems, including an understanding of Engineering Masters, work orders, and related processes

Duties and Responsibilities

• Developing mechanical designs using 3D CAD software and ensuring designs meet functional, performance, quality, and manufacturability requirements
• Applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Lean principles throughout the product development and sustainment process
• Performing engineering calculations, tolerance stack analysis, and cost analysis to support design decisions and manufacturability
• Developing prototypes, coordinating testing, analyzing results, and recommending design improvements
• Supporting product improvement activities from initial concept and design through validation, certification, and production implementation

• Supporting product lines through design changes, reverse engineering, component validations, document releases, and obsolescence activities
• Working with Quality, Purchasing, and Manufacturing to support continued production in cases of non-conformity, supplier shortages, and other issues
• Reviewing updated drawings for accuracy and maintaining current engineering records and product documentation
• Supporting ERP accuracy and integrity
• Organizing and leading cross-functional meetings as part of sustainment activities
• Performing other engineering-related duties and projects as assigned

Benefits of Working With Us

• The anticipated base salary range for this position is $90,000–$105,000 annually. Placement within the range will be based on the candidate’s relevant experience, demonstrated capabilities, and qualifications.
