Job summary

Gilbarco Veeder-Root in Altoona, PA seeks a Mechanical Engineer II to contribute to development of product designs and lead basic to moderately complex projects from concept through launch. You will apply CAD, GD&T, and reliability testing while coordinating cross‑functional teams for timely delivery.

The role requires strong manufacturing knowledge, 8+ years in design, and experience with third‑party regulatory safety and compliance for global markets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years of design/development experience.
  • Strong manufacturing knowledge: castings, machining, molding, assembly and test.
  • Experience with third party regulatory safety/compliance agencies.
  • Proficient in CAD modeling (Creo preferred) and GD&T.
  • Demonstrated communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, validates, verifies, and documents mechanical components and systems.
  • Lead Agile program management and coordinate cross-functional teams.
  • Assess cost, manufacturability, assembly and test against requirements.
  • Lead regulatory approval projects for global markets and compliance.
  • Develop robust test plans and perform reliability/validation testing.

Job description

Purpose of Position

As a Mechanical Engineer II, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of product design solutions as an active team member and as an engineering lead on basic to moderately complex projects as well as on sustaining efforts. The successful candidate will utilize their communication, technical and project management skills to develop solutions and coordinate team activities to achieve project goals. Involvement includes all aspects of the workflow from initial concept and validation testing through development, verification and product launch.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designs, develops, validates, verifies, and documents the fundamental functions of mechanical components, assemblies and systems, hydraulic systems. Includes design and or selection of elastomers, castings, machined parts, and plastics suitable for fuel handling equipment
  • Operates within an Agile Program Management framework
  • Assess cost, manufacturability, assembly, test and function to align customer requirements and company goals
  • Utilizes project management skills to ensure safety, on-time delivery, quality and cost, requirements
  • Interpret and design products against UL, ATEX and IECEx global standards and guidelines to operate safely in hazardous location environments
  • Lead and manage third party regulatory approval projects to achieve product certification and compliance for a global market
  • Verify and validate product designs through the use of calculations, simulations, predictive tools and empirical testing in both the lab and field, via development and management of robust test plans
  • Conduct warranty failure analysis from product field returns and develop root cause and corrective action
  • Lead and participate in hands‑on lab testing of product
  • Develop, manage and implement robust reliability test plans, design reviews, FMEA and risk analysis
  • Lead and participate in VAVE, PPV and quality improvement initiatives
  • Develop working knowledge of company products and systems
Background and Skill

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in product design and development engineering, demonstrating capability of owning development and delivery of mechanical and electro‑mechanical products while operating in a team environment
  • Strong manufacturing experience and knowledge of castings, machining, molding, assembly and test
  • Experience with third party regulatory safety and compliance agencies
  • Experience with CAD modeling (Creo preferred) and GD&T
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with MS applications
  • Passion for continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong creative and problem‑solving capabilities
  • Strong attention to detail
