Job summary

TYG is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Boston area to lead forensic investigations into HVAC, plumbing, controls and broader MEP systems. You will analyze failures, determine root causes, and develop remedial designs while acting as Engineer of Record as needed.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years of MEP experience, hold an Active PE license, and excel in technical writing and client-facing communication. This role offers growth into expert witness work within forensic engineering.

I’m partnered with a leading national forensic engineering and technical consulting firm looking to add a Senior Mechanical Engineer to its team in the Boston area.

This is an opportunity for an experienced MEP engineer who wants to combine their design and construction background with forensic investigations, failure analysis and remedial design.

The position will involve:

• Leading forensic investigations into HVAC, plumbing, controls and broader MEP systems
• Investigating failures, construction defects and design-related issues to determine root cause
• Developing remedial designs and serving as Engineer of Record where required
• Conducting site investigations and preparing technical reports
• Managing projects and providing technical leadership to junior engineers
• Working directly with attorneys, insurers, building owners and other clients
• Opportunity to develop into expert witness work, including depositions and trial testimony

What they’re looking for:

• Mechanical Engineering background with 10+ years of experience
• Active PE license required
• Strong MEP design and construction knowledge
• Experience across HVAC, plumbing, controls and building systems
• Forensic experience is preferred, but not essential for someone with strong investigative and problem-solving skills
• Strong technical writing and client-facing capabilities
