Job summary

LaBella Associates in Albany, NY is seeking a mid-level Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC and district energy projects within the Building Engineering Division – Energy team. You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with clients, and guide projects from feasibility through design and construction.

The role emphasizes decarbonization/electrification efforts and requires strong communication and integration across design disciplines. Salary is competitive within the New York market.

Qualifications

• 4-8 years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
• Well-rounded experience in HVAC and hydronic system design.
• Designing geothermal or district energy systems experience preferred.
• Experience with Revit or AutoCAD.
• New York State Professional Engineer's license is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of building HVAC systems and district energy systems.
• Field investigations to document existing conditions.
• Selection and calculations for design purposes.
• Work with Jr Engineers to develop and review project drawings and documentation.
• Interact directly with clients by completing analysis of design options, cost benefit comparisons, and communicating results to assist in decision making process.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and utility requirements.
