Job summary

RLF, a nationally recognized architecture, engineering, and interior design firm, is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer with a plumbing focus to design building systems and contribute to healthcare and federal projects. You will develop construction documents in Revit/AutoCAD, perform pipe sizing calculations, and work with architects and engineers to deliver high-quality plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) a plus.
  • Experience with Revit/AutoCAD or similar design tools preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering principles to design building systems including plumbing, medical gas, and fire suppression.
  • Develop construction documents using Revit and other design software per firm standards.
  • Analyze codes, space/site requirements, and reports to impact designs.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, and project teams to produce coordinated construction documents.
  • Gather project information via field investigations and coordination with clients.
  • Support construction administration activities under supervision of a licensed engineer.

RLF is currently seeking a full-time entry level Mechanical Engineer with a focus in plumbing. The Mechanical Engineer will assist in preparing detailed drawings of engineering designs and plans for buildings and structures. Performs a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard engineering techniques for small projects or selected segments of a larger project. Performs design layouts and features, which require researching, compiling, and recording information for assigned project work.

Responsibilities
  • Apply sound engineering principles to assist in the design of building systems, including plumbing, medical gas, and fire suppression systems.
  • Develop and coordinate construction documents using Autodesk Revit and other design software in accordance with firm standards.
  • Analyze building codes, space and site requirements, and other technical documents and reports to determine their effect on engineering designs.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, and project teams to develop coordinated, high-quality construction documents.
  • Gather project information through field investigations, existing documentation, and coordination with clients and project teams to support design development.
  • Support construction administration activities under the supervision of a licensed engineer, including site observations, contractor coordination, and verification of design intent.
  • Evaluate mechanical system alternatives for constructability, energy performance, sustainability, and long-term operational effectiveness.
  • Perform plumbing calculations to determine loads and size equipment.
  • Develop technical knowledge through mentorship, training, project experience, and progressively increasing design responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) a plus.
  • Coursework or internship experience with an architectural and engineering (A/E) firm is a plus.
  • Read and understand technical drawings, schematics, and other relevant reports.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuous learning in the field of mechanical engineering.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and their application to building systems design.
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, or other relevant design software platforms is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
