Job summary

RLF, a nationally recognized architecture, engineering, and interior design firm, seeks a Mechanical Engineer in Orlando to support HVAC and building systems design.

You will prepare construction drawings in Revit and AutoCAD, run sizing calculations, review codes, and collaborate with architects and engineers to deliver coordinated, compliant documents. Hybrid work and growth opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; EIT a plus.
  • Experience with HVAC systems and calculations is preferred.
  • Read and understand technical drawings, schematics, and reports.
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD; familiarity with HVAC software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of HVAC and building mechanical systems under licensed engineers.
  • Develop and modify construction drawings and models in Revit and other software.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations for equipment sizing and design development.
  • Review building codes, standards, and requirements for compliant designs.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and designers to produce coordinated documents.
  • Support site visits and field investigations to verify design information.
  • Assist with RFIs, shop drawings, and field observations during construction.
  • Research HVAC equipment and building systems to meet project needs.
  • Prepare technical documentation and design revisions for deliverables.
  • Evaluate HVAC system alternatives for energy efficiency and constructability.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews for accurate construction documents.
  • Communicate design questions and updates with project team.
  • Manage tasks to meet project schedules with quality.
  • Develop technical and professional skills through mentorship and training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design of HVAC and other building mechanical systems under the guidance of licensed engineers.
  • Develop and modify construction drawings and models using Autodesk Revit and other design software in accordance with company standards.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations to support equipment selection, system sizing, and design development.
  • Assist with reviewing applicable building codes, industry standards, and project requirements to support compliant and efficient designs.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, and project teams to produce coordinated construction documents.
  • Participate in site visits and field investigations to gather existing conditions and verify design information.
  • Assist with construction administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and performing field observations.
  • Research HVAC equipment, materials, and building systems to identify solutions that meet project requirements.
  • Support project engineers by preparing technical documentation, design revisions, and project deliverables.
  • Assist in evaluating HVAC system alternatives based on energy efficiency, sustainability, constructability, and long-term performance.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews to ensure accurate and coordinated construction documents.
  • Communicate design questions and project updates with engineers, project managers, and other team members.
  • Manage assigned tasks to meet project schedules while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
  • Continue developing technical and professional skills through mentorship, training, project experience, and professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor2 in Mechanical Engineering preferred. Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field (for Designer positions), or equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) a plus.
  • Coursework or internship experience with HVAC systems and/or an architectural and engineering (A/E) firm preferred.
  • Read and understand technical drawings, schematics, and other relevant reports.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuous learning in the field of mechanical engineering.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC system design principles and applicable building codes and standards.
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, or other relevant software design platforms.
  • Exposure to HVAC and calculation software such as Trane TRAE 3D Plus or Carrier HAP is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
  • Ability to demonstrate awareness and safely navigate an active construction site.
  • Flexibility in work hours may be required to meet project deadlines and business needs.
