Job summary

Salas O’Brien is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for the Fed-Florida Business Unit. The role focuses on design of mechanical and plumbing systems, energy efficiency, and coordination with disciplines across facilities. Expect hands-on design, calculations, and field support in Merritt Island, FL and Bethesda, MD.

You should have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program and 5+ years of professional experience. EIT is preferred; PE eligibility within 1–2 years is required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of professional Mechanical Engineering experience.
• EIT Certification preferred; ability to obtain PE within 1-2 years required.
• Must have working knowledge of the ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, NEC, UFC, and UFC codes; with a preference for knowledge of the FBC, IBC, IMC, and IPC, and AFMAN/SSMAN requirements.
• Experience with CAD, Revit, Bluebeam Revu, or other modeling/drafting software is highly preferred.
• Valid/Unrestricted FL driver license.
• US Citizen for Security Clearance requirements; ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Perform project direct billable functions and responsibilities to maintain a personal utilization rate of 85%-90%.
• Assist engineering teams in various phases of project development from concept design to implementation and testing; ensure deliverables meet customer expectations and standards.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive project documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and progress reports.
• Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and project teams; fill gaps in customer communication as needed.
• Responsible for site design, permitting, assessments, and construction management.
• Adheres to Project Management Plans (PMP) and Quality Control (QC) programs and communicates design concerns to the Engineer of Record and Project Manager.
• Participates in Fed-Florida Quality Control Program and adherence to Fed-Florida quality standards.
