Job summary

Barry-Wehmillier Packaging is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and document automated packaging machinery. You will develop machine layouts, assemblies, and BOMs that meet safety and manufacturability requirements, while coordinating with controls, assembly, sourcing, service, and project teams.

You will translate customer requirements into detailed mechanical designs, select key components, and support FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Experience with industrial equipment and automation.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems, assemblies, and components for automated packaging equipment.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, pneumatic schematics, specs and assembly instructions.
• Translate approved concepts and requirements into detailed mechanical designs and manufacturing documentation.
• Select and size servos, motors, gearboxes, actuators, bearings, pneumatics and other components.
• Support machine build, debugging, FAT/SAT, and commissioning activities.
• Collaborate with Electrical Controls Engineers to ensure mechanical-control compatibility.
• Lead design reviews with technical feedback and improvements.
• Produce engineering documentation per processes and revision control.
• Assist in solving mechanical design, performance and manufacturability issues.
• Contribute to design improvements for performance, safety, and cost.
• Ensure compliance with machine safety standards and design practices.
• Support prototype development, testing, and verification.
• Collaborate with suppliers on component selection and cost optimization.
