Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) in Pullman, WA seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design assemblies, conduct thermal and vibration analyses, and specify components for electromechanical products. You will perform tolerance studies, assist with manufacturability, and generate BOMs and estimates while supporting documentation and testing.

The ideal candidate has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred), and strong problem solving, writing, and communication

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Heat transfer knowledge desired.
  • Computer-aided design (CAD) experience required.
  • Materials and mechanics understanding.
  • Part and assembly design experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent writing, documentation, and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Design assemblies and component selection.
  • Perform tolerance studies and design for manufacturability/assembly.
  • Conduct thermal, vibration, and shock analyses.
  • Quality review of documentation and manufacturing processes.
  • Write test plans and analyze test results.
  • Maintain project notebooks and BOMs.

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer, a typical day might include the following:

  • Assembly design
  • Plastic and metal part design
  • Tolerance studies
  • Design for manufacturability/assembly
  • Component selection and specification
  • Thermal analysis and design
  • Mechanical shock and vibration analysis
  • Qualify and monitor component and custom part vendors.
  • Generate and maintain accurate bills of materials.
  • Provide accurate labor and material estimates under supervision.
  • Review and support documentation, mechanical designs, and manufacturing process design.
  • Write test plans, conduct design tests, and review results.
  • Maintain current and accurate project notebooks.
Qualifications
  • You have a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
  • You have education/experience in the following areas:
  • heat transfer
  • computer-aided design
  • materials and mechanics
  • part and assembly design
  • Problem solving skills
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
Nice to have
  • Education/experience in the following areas:
  • electromechanical packaging design
  • electronic manufacturing techniques
  • SolidWorks experience

Pay Range

We anticipate filling this position as a Mechanical Engineer $97,740 - $144,460 per year. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job and responsibility. We base our starting pay offer and title on job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
