Job Description: Mechanical Engineer - HVAC

SFCS, a collaborative and innovative design center, is dedicated to creating next-generation Living, Learning, and Healing Environments. With a family-oriented culture, we aim to deliver exceptional service through our four regional offices in North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania, specializing in senior living, education, healthcare, and government facility design nationwide.

Our Roanoke office seeks a Mechanical Engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, focusing on HVAC systems and building project designs. A P.E. registration, with the ability to register in multiple states, is required. Candidates should have a solid background in HVAC systems design, preferably with 8+ years of experience in commercial and residential building projects. Knowledge of ASHRAE standards, NFPA, and IBC codes, along with experience in HVAC analysis, layout, hydronic piping, air distribution, and HVAC materials, is essential.

The role involves performing all aspects of mechanical engineering related to assigned projects, including:

  1. Meeting with architects and team members to determine appropriate HVAC systems, placement, and preliminary costs.
  2. Conducting field work to assess existing HVAC components for reuse or retrofit.
  3. Collaborating with architects, clients, and other engineers during design and documentation phases.
  4. Preparing contract documents using the latest Revit software.
  5. Developing technical construction specifications supporting project design.
  6. Preparing design development and construction documents, coordinating with the engineering team.
  7. Overseeing and mentoring less experienced engineers and architects.
  8. Assisting in HVAC construction administration, including shop drawing review, site visits, and responding to field questions.
  9. Demonstrating strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  10. Maintaining excellent client interaction and organizational skills.
  11. Showing enthusiasm and eagerness for ongoing education and skill development.
