Job summary

GEI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Associate to Senior level Mechanical Engineer in Pasadena, California. Job description

Your role at GEI

GEI’s Mechanical engineering group needs staff to support its growing client base and is seeking an associate to senior level Mechanical Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our team. The successful candidate must have excellent academic credentials and a strong desire to work on a broad range of small to larger size projects related to water resources from planning to final design, construction engineering support, and start‑up. Design experience and strong interest with hydro‑plants and water control gate and valve systems is desired. The ideal candidate will have experience with CAD design, analytical modeling and other engineering software and will possess the skills needed to apply such tools when completing the various phases of projects from conceptual planning and analysis, through final design. Candidate must have experience in analyzing project needs, the ability to develop concepts and designs, and work with a team of design engineers in successfully completing projects. The ideal candidate will also possess the skills below along with excellent organizational and communications skills and the ability to work closely with other engineers, technical staff, and client representatives.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Mechanical engineering and analysis with an emphasis in water resources related projects.

  • Experience or desire to work in developing and understanding piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Use of or experience in Revit or other 3D design software is a plus.
  • Ability to convert field information and work with a team to produce final design drawings.
  • Prepare and evaluate project construction cost estimates and alternatives.
  • Proven ability to work with various engineers on multiple discipline projects.
  • Preparation of technical memos, reports, and construction specifications.
  • Construction Experience including field observation of administrative tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) is preferred but will consider candidates with other engineering degrees and related experience or interests.
  • Strong interest or design experience with pumping and water systems.
  • GPS, GIS, and 3D design software training or experience is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability and desire to obtain Professional Engineer license.

Physical Requirements

Functional demands: sedentary, light, medium. Activity levels throughout workday: sitting 4‑6 hours, standing 2 hours, walking 2 hours, climbing 30 minutes. Lifting (floor to waist level) 20 lbs; lifting (waist level and above) 20 lbs. Carrying objects, push/pull, twisting, bending 10 min, reaching forward 10 min, reaching overhead 10 min, squat/kneel/crawl 10 min. Wrist position deviation, pinching/fine motor skills, keyboard use/repetitive motion 4‑6 hours. Taste or smell (taste = never). Talk or hear. Vision: near, far, color discrimination; hearing. Sensory requirements: minimal, moderate, accurate. Occupational exposure risk potential: reasonably anticipated, not anticipated; blood borne pathogens, chemical, airborne communicable diseases, extreme temperatures, radiation, uneven surfaces or elevations, extreme noise levels, dust or particulates. Usual workday hours: 8, 10, 12; other work hours.
