Our client, a well-established consulting engineering firm based in New York City, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their growing MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) design team. This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level engineer to work on a diverse portfolio of commercial, institutional, and mission-critical projects while advancing their career within a collaborative, design-focused environment.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, and/or mission-critical facilities from concept through construction documents
- Perform load calculations, equipment selection, and system sizing using industry-standard software (e.g., Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, or equivalent)
- Prepare mechanical drawings, specifications, and design narratives using AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP
- Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, structural, and architectural teams to ensure integrated, code-compliant designs
- Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions and monitor construction progress
- Support project managers with client communication, scope development, and project scheduling
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, including ASHRAE, IBC, IMC, and local NYC building/energy codes
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal quality control processes
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
- 4-10 years of relevant MEP/mechanical design experience within a consulting engineering environment
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP; experience with energy modeling software a plus
- Solid understanding of HVAC system design principles, load calculations, and NYC building/energy code requirements
- EIT certification OR PE license (or actively pursuing) preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines
- Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple project deadlines
