Job summary

  • Experience with mechanical system design of commercial/institutional buildings.
  • Experience with architectural/engineering firms is preferred.

  • Provide construction contract administration as needed.
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of others in the mechanical team.

Job Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will coordinate mechanical design activities, ensuring compliance with codes and integration with other disciplines, and support the delivery of projects from schematic design through construction administration.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the work of the mechanical design team through schematic development and contract documentation phases.
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
  • Coordinate workload to complete documents on schedule.
  • Conduct work sessions at the project site with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
  • Review mechanical documents for conflicts across disciplines.
  • Write and edit mechanical specifications, select equipment, systems and devices.
  • Coordinate with affected disciplines on addenda, RFIs, CPRs, change orders, and incorporate agreed changes into project documents.
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed.
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Mechanical Project Engineers, Coordinators or CAD Technicians as required.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings.
  • Experience in Healthcare, Science and Technology, or Civic facilities.
  • Experience or interest in sustainable design/LEED (desired but not required).
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Previous experience in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings.
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
  • Experience in commercial or institutional facilities.
  • Computer experience using MS Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, and manufacturer selection software.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of an employee‑owned culture.
