Job summary

Waters Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to our Liquid Chromatography Business in Milford, MA. In this role, the individual will implement cost-reduction initiatives for LC instruments and systems, across disciplines including physics, electronics, firmware, software and chemistry.

From concept through production, the engineer will design, analyze and test subsystems and complete instruments, interfacing with Procurement, Reliability, NPI, Test Engineering and Service.

Qualifications

  • BSME degree required.
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering desired.
  • Minimum 2 years of related field experience with BSME.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electromechanical, fluidic, and thermal components with cost reductions.
  • Manage ME aspects of design improvement projects for scientific instrumentation subsystems.
  • Support precision machined, plastic molded, and cast parts while ensuring manufacturability.
  • Adhere to ISO 9001 and UL/CSA/EU CE Mark regulations.
  • Interface with Procurement, Reliability, NPI, Test Eng, and Service throughout the lifecycle.

Waters Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to become a key contributor to our Liquid Chromatography Business in Milford, MA. In this role, the individual will implement cost-reduction initiatives for Liquid Chromatography instruments and systems. Working in a multi-disciplinary environment where high precision mechanical design intersects with physics, electronics, firmware, software and chemistry, the contributor will be responsible for multiple aspects of mechanical design, analysis and test of subsystems and complete instruments from concept through to production.


Typical tasks


  • Develop electromechanical, fluidic, and thermal components and sub-systems for product improvement needs with a heavy emphasis on cost reductions.

  • As an engineer, manage ME aspects of design improvement projects for scientific instrumentation subsystems.

  • Support precision machined, plastic molded, and cast parts that are critical to function, user interface, or both while ensuring cost effectiveness and manufacturability.

  • Adhere to regulations such as ISO 9001 and UL/CSA/EU CE Mark.

  • Interface with Procurement, Reliability, New Product Introduction, Test Engineering, and Service throughout the Development Lifecycle.


Required qualifications

Education


  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) - Required

  • Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering - Desired


Experience


  • Minimum of 2 Years of Experience in Related Field with BSME


Skills


  • Proficiency designing precision mechanical components and assemblies taking into consideration design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, interchangeability, ease of assembly, and cost

  • Proficiency using 3D parametric modeling software (preferably Solidworks or UGNX)

  • Proficiency conducting Finite Element Analysis (CFD and experience with ANSYS considered a plus)

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, solid and fluid mechanics, and heat transfer

  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 2009 as well as industry drafting standards

  • Knowledge of injection molded plastics design desirable

  • Experience with DFM (Design for Manufacture) methodology

  • Experience processing ECO's, practicing organized revision control using a Product Data Management tool (PDM - SAP preferred)

  • Fluency in English - written and spoken

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within and outside of team, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with management, peers, suppliers and customers

  • Experience with Python / or AI or Equivalent Tool
