Job summary

Waters Corporation in Milford, MA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the Liquid Chromatography business. The role focuses on cost-reduction initiatives and robust mechanical design from concept to production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Minimum 2 years of related mechanical engineering experience.
  • Strong CAD and simulation skills in SolidWorks or UGNX.
  • Experience with CFD/FEA; ANSYS is a plus.
  • Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 2009.
  • Desirable: injection molded plastics design.
  • DFM and ECO processing experience with revision control.
  • Fluency in English, strong communication skills.
  • Experience with Python or AI tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electromechanical, fluidic, and thermal components with cost reduction focus.
  • Manage ME aspects of design improvement projects for instrumentation subsystems.
  • Support precision machined, plastic molded, and cast parts for function and manufacturability.
  • Adhere to ISO 9001, UL/CSA/EU CE Mark regulations.
  • Interface with Procurement, Reliability, NPI, Test Eng, and Service throughout the lifecycle.

Overview

Waters Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to become a key contributor to our Liquid Chromatography Business in Milford, MA. In this role, the individual will implement cost-reduction initiatives for Liquid Chromatography instruments and systems.

Working in a multi-disciplinary environment where high precision mechanical design intersects with physics, electronics, firmware, software and chemistr(y), the contributor will be responsible for multiple aspects of mechanical design, analysis and test of subsystems and complete instruments from concept through to production.

Responsibilities
  • Develop electromechanical, fluidic, and thermal components and sub-systems for product improvement needs with a heavy emphasis on cost reductions.
  • As an engineer, manage ME aspects of design improvement projects for scientific instrumentation subsystems.
  • Support precision machined, plastic molded, and cast parts that are critical to function, user interface, or both while ensuring cost effectiveness and manufacturability.
  • Adhere to regulations such as ISO 9001 and UL/CSA/EU CE Mark.
  • Interface with Procurement, Reliability, New Product Introduction, Test Engineering, and Service throughout the Development Lifecycle.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) - Required
  • Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering - Desired

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 Years of Experience in Related Field with BSME

Skills:

  • Proficiency designing precision mechanical components and assemblies taking into consideration design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, interchangeability, ease of assembly, and cost
  • Proficiency using 3D parametric modeling software (preferably Solidworks or UGNX)
  • Proficiency conducting Finite Element Analysis (CFD and experience with ANSYS considered a plus)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, solid and fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 2009 as well as industry drafting standards
  • Knowledge of injection molded plastics design desirable
  • Experience with DFM (Design for Manufacture) methodology
  • Experience processing ECO's, practicing organized revision control using a Product Data Management tool (PDM - SAP preferred)
  • Fluency in English - written and spoken
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within and outside of team, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with management, peers, suppliers and customers
  • Experience with Python / or AI or Equivalent Tool
