Job summary

Mauser Packaging Solutions in the United States is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to identify and lead improvements in a high-speed, high-volume manufacturing facility. You will analyze downtime, lead RCA/RCFA, design tooling and equipment upgrades, and collaborate across Maintenance, Operations, Quality, Safety, and suppliers to boost reliability, safety, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

Qualifications

Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer will identify and implement improvement activities that result in sustained product and operational cost reductions in a high speed/high volume manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities

• Analyze equipment downtime, reliability, and maintenance data to identify major losses and opportunities to improve equipment uptime, reliability, and operating costs.
• Utilize the downtime tracking system (Shop Logix) and other analytical tools to identify primary downtime drivers affecting critical assets. Lead cross-functional teams with Maintenance and Operations to eliminate recurring losses and improve equipment performance.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve the plant reliability process, including equipment criticality, failure analysis, reliability improvement initiatives, and preventive/predictive maintenance strategies.
• Leverage OEM subject matter experts, engineering networks, and industry best practices to identify and implement equipment reliability improvements.
• Work with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to identify equipment end-of-life (EOL) risks, obsolescence, capacity constraints, and opportunities for equipment and process upgrades. Develop and manage long-term equipment improvement and capital investment plans.
• Provide hands-on engineering support to Maintenance and Operations by troubleshooting mechanical and equipment-related problems and developing sustainable technical solutions.
• Serve as a technical subject matter expert for manufacturing equipment, providing engineering guidance to Maintenance, Operations, and other departments.
• Maintain effective communication with OEMs and equipment suppliers, including coordination of technical support, engineering recommendations, equipment documentation, and technical bulletins and updates.
• Provide engineering input and recommendations for the annual capital budget, prioritizing projects that improve reliability, safety, capacity, quality, productivity, and cost.
• Evaluate and recommend critical spare parts based on equipment criticality, failure history, lead times, and production risk.
• Support Maintenance and Operations during equipment overhauls, major repairs, installations, commissioning, and unscheduled outages, providing engineering guidance as needed.
• Perform and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for equipment, systems, and subsystems. Implement and follow up on corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
• Design prototypes, tooling, fixtures, and mechanical modifications to support process improvements, equipment upgrades, new products, and new manufacturing applications.
• Develop engineering concepts and technical solutions that improve safety, reliability, quality, throughput, maintainability, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
• Work collaboratively with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality, Safety, and external vendors/OEMs to develop and implement engineering solutions and improvements.
• Support and/or lead capital projects from concept through implementation, including scope development, equipment specifications, vendor coordination, installation, commissioning, and project closeout.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline; preferably Mechanical
• 5–7 years of engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably involving machinery, equipment, tooling, or process development.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design, machine components, equipment operation, and mechanical systems.
• Advanced proficiency in CAD and engineering design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor.
• Demonstrated ability to develop accurate 2D layouts, detailed engineering drawings, elevations, and functional 3D models/assemblies for manufacturing and engineering applications.
• Experience designing or modifying machinery, tooling, fixtures, guards, conveyors, and other manufacturing equipment.
• Working knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes, particularly Stamping, Welding, Forming, and Automation.
• Ability to evaluate equipment performance, identify mechanical/process issues, and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Knowledge of CMMS systems and automated downtime tracking systems.
• Working knowledge of SPC, FMEA, Criticality Analysis, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
• Experience with equipment installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement is preferred.
• Experience with Project Management, Capex projects, equipment procurement, and vendor coordination.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Strong computer and data-analysis skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience with SAP, Minitab, or other engineering/data-analysis software is a plus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Safety, and other departments.
• Must be a self-starter who can work independently with limited supervision while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of machine safety and applicable OSHA requirements.
• OSHA safety training/certification is a plus.
