American Pacific Corporation currently seeks a Mechanical Engineer to support design, operation, maintenance, reliability, and expansion of chemical facilities. You will lead mechanical equipment evaluations, capital projects, and the Mechanical Integrity Program, coordinating with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, and external vendors to ensure safe, reliable plant performance.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide mechanical engineering support for the design, operation, maintenance, improvement, reliability, and expansion of American Pacific Corporation's chemical manufacturing facilities and equipment. Provide technical support to Maintenance and Operations for mechanical equipment troubleshooting, failure investigations, repair and replacement decisions, and reliability improvements. Manage mechanical engineering and capital projects ranging from equipment modifications and replacements to large-scale plant projects, expansions, and new facilities. Initially support the development and implementation of the Company's Mechanical Integrity Program, with the expectation of eventually assuming ownership and overall responsibility for the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide mechanical engineering support for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, improvement, and expansion of the plant.
• Design, evaluate, troubleshoot, and improve mechanical equipment and systems, including tanks, pumps, blowers, chiller systems, agitators, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and other fixed and rotating equipment. Develop recommendations for repair, replacement, modification, and reliability improvements.
• Apply sound engineering principles and applicable codes and standards, including ASME, API, and other relevant requirements, to equipment evaluations, designs, modifications, and projects.
• Manage assigned capital, maintenance, reliability, expansion, and improvement projects, ranging from equipment modifications and replacements to large-scale plant projects. Develop scopes, budgets, schedules, specifications, and project documentation and coordinate projects through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
• Coordinate outside engineering firms, contractors, vendors, consultants, and other resources and work with Production, Maintenance, EHS, and other plant departments to successfully execute projects.
• Participate in equipment selection and procurement, including development of specifications, purchase requisitions, technical bid evaluations, vendor evaluations, and review of vendor drawings and submittals.
• Develop, implement, and continually improve the Company's Mechanical Integrity Program, with the expectation of eventually assuming overall ownership and responsibility for the Establish and maintain the systems and documentation necessary to identify equipment, plan and track inspections, maintain inspection records, evaluate equipment condition, track deficiencies, and document required follow-up actions.
• Provide engineering support for structural conditions associated with mechanical equipment and plant facilities, including foundations, platforms, equipment supports, and buildings, and coordinate specialized structural engineering services when required.
• Lead or participate in design reviews, process safety analyses, project reviews, equipment inspections, and other engineering activities necessary to safely implement projects and equipment modifications.
• Develop and implement procedures, work instructions, and other documentation associated with new, modified, or repaired equipment and systems.
• Provide engineering support during equipment outages, installations, commissioning, startups, and troubleshooting activities.
• Promote safe, reliable, maintainable, and environmentally responsible engineering solutions and comply with Company safety, environmental, quality, and operating requirements.
• Ensure all projects designs are completed on time, within budget, safely, and satisfactory to operations. Inspect completed installations and observe operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
• Prepare equipment specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering principles and application of those principals in the Chemical/Manufacturing environment typically acquired through 1 to 3 (or more) years of experience.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

• Direct mechanical engineering experience in a chemical plant
• Experience developing, implementing, or managing a Mechanical Integrity Program.
• Education, training, or experience in structural engineering.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Experience with project engineering and coordination of contractors, vendors, and other engineering resources.
• Good working knowledge of ASME/API and other engineering codes and standards.
• Familiarity with NDE methods and Mechanical Integrity Programs
• Ability to work productively in a cross functional team environment
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to effectively solve problems and resolve conflicts
• Organizational skills and is able to prioritize work, develop appropriate time lines and work to deadlines
