NewMarket Corporation, a diversified chemical company, seeks an EHS Analyst to support the EHS Department with inspections, data entry, and record keeping to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

You will help generate metrics, maintain training records, and assist in implementing the EHS management system to sustain certifications and drive continuous safety improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Industrial Safety, Chemistry or other related sciences.
  • Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Experience in manufacturing, chemical industry, and/or related fields.
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience in an industrial setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • RCRA hazardous waste compliance experience (waste profiles, waste manifests, etc.).
  • Understanding of environmental permitting, regulations, and requirements for drinking water, water, air, etc.
  • Emergency Response/First Aid experience
  • Life-critical safety program experience (Lockout/Tagout, Hot Work, etc.)
  • Responsible Care and/or ISO 14001 experience
  • Understanding of Industrial Hygiene principles and sampling methodology (noise monitoring, air exposure monitoring, etc.)
  • EHS Risk Assessment: Demonstrates basic understanding of risk and hazard identification.
  • EHS Compliance & Conformance: Awareness of applicable EHS requirements.

Responsibilities

The Afton and Ethyl companies develop, manufacture, blend, and deliver chemical additives that enhance the performance of petroleum products. Afton is a leading manufacturer and marketer of performance enhancing fuel and lubricant additives with operations around the world. AMPAC, with operations in the U.S., is a manufacturer of specialty materials primarily used in solid rocket motors for the aerospace and defense industries.

JOB SUMMARY

EHS Analyst will be responsible for conducting various inspections, data entry, record keeping and providing overall support to the EHS Department. Position works to ensure compliance with National, State and local regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct various inspections (weekly, monthly, annual, etc.) required to comply with OSHA, EPA, DHS regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with generating metrics and data to drive continuous improvement and enable sites to achieve vision of zero injuries/incidents/non-compliance.
  • Maintain records which are needed to demonstrate compliance with safety and environmental compliance. Elevate issues to head off EHS issues and concerns.
  • Support processes, procedures and instruction for American Pacific personnel that ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing environmental, safety, and health issues.
  • Assist in providing adequate and appropriate safety, environmental, and regulatory training for personnel. Assist in developing training programs and maintaining training records.
  • Assist in implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the EHS management system – to sustain certification and deliver performance.
  • Complete required environmental reporting such as Tier II, TRI, TSCA CDR, etc.
  • Conduct Industrial Hygiene sampling/assessments and provide reports, training, and necessary improvements.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Industrial Safety, Chemistry or other related sciences.
  • Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills.

  • EHS Risk Control: Demonstrates the ability to assist with the development and administration of programs, guidelines and physical controls that help to eliminate or manage EHS risks. Demonstrates the ability to track and complete open corrective actions on a timely basis.
  • EHS Compliance & Conformance: Demonstrates the awareness of applicable EHS requirements (i.e., compliance with external regulations and conformance to company EHS standards). Able to identify basic compliance issues and elevate to management as necessary. Attention to detail a must.
  • EHS Management Systems: Demonstrates awareness and ability to describe their role within the EHS management system and its key elements Demonstrates an awareness of American Pacific’s goals and priorities in corporate responsibility and EHS Demonstrates the ability to utilize one or more elements of an effective management system
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrates the ability to build relationships with internal non-EHS contacts that are key to the execution of EHS goals and objectives (such as non-EHS colleagues, emergency responders, regulators, contractors, suppliers). Demonstrates the ability to track and respond to the views, opinions or demands of internal stakeholders.
  • Analysis and Problem Solving - Analyzes situations and selects appropriate problem-solving path to adopt. Acts on that independently. Utilizes basic analytical tools.
  • Communication - Communicates well on work matters. Capable of compiling inspection reports and presentations.
