Job summary

HDR is seeking a Mechanical Design Coordinator to lead mechanical design efforts for commercial and institutional facilities. The role focuses on coordinating HVAC analysis, equipment selection, and project documentation to support high-quality outcomes.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, supervise CAD personnel, and ensure design integrity through construction phase responsibilities and contract administration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office and Trane TRACE or similar software.
  • Active participation in employee-owned culture is a must.
  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis preferred.
  • Experience in Healthcare, Science/Technology and/or Civic facilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate mechanical aspects of commercial or institutional projects.
  • Perform routine mechanical engineering assignments requiring standard techniques.
  • Write and edit mechanical specifications and select mechanical systems and devices.
  • Use engineering software to develop HVAC loads, energy analysis and equipment selections.
  • Prepare construction documents for HVAC and plumbing design of buildings.
  • Work independently on small projects or assist more-senior engineers on larger projects.
  • Supervise Mechanical CAD Technicians and coordinate designs with architectural staff and other disciplines.
  • Take responsibility for construction contract administration including field inspections and conflict resolution.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Mechanical Design Coordinator, we'll count on you to:

  • Coordinate mechanical aspects of commercial or institutional projects

  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis
  • Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Coordinator" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
  • Healthcare, Science and Technology and/or Civic facilities experience
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
