Job summary

HDR is seeking a Mechanical Design EIT/Coordinator in the United States-Missouri-Kansas City area to lead mechanical aspects of commercial or institutional projects.

You will perform routine mechanical engineering assignments, write specifications, use engineering software for HVAC loads and energy analysis, and prepare construction documents, potentially supervising CAD Technicians and coordinating with architects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering (required).
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, and equipment selection software.
  • Active participant in our employee‑owned culture is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate mechanical aspects of commercial or institutional projects.
  • Perform routine mechanical engineering assignments applying standard techniques.
  • Write and edit mechanical specifications and select mechanical systems.
  • Use engineering software to develop HVAC loads, energy analyses, and equipment selections.
  • Prepare construction documents for HVAC and plumbing design including drawings and reports.
  • Work independently on small projects or assist senior engineers on larger ones.
  • Supervise Mechanical CAD Technicians and coordinate with architects and other disciplines.
  • Assist with field inspections and construction contract administration; resolve conflicts.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Mechanical Design EIT/Coordinator, we’ll count on you to:

  • Coordinate mechanical aspects of commercial or institutional projects
  • Perform routine mechanical engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures
  • Write and edit mechanical specifications, and select mechanical systems and devices
  • Utilize engineering software to develop HVAC loads, energy analysis and mechanical equipment selections
  • Prepare construction documents for HVAC and plumbing design of buildings, including drawings, specifications and reports
  • Work independently on small projects, or assist more‑senior engineers on larger projects
  • Supervise work of Mechanical CAD Technicians, and coordinate design of assigned projects with architectural staff and other engineering disciplines
  • Take responsibility for construction contract administration requiring field inspections and conflict resolution
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis
  • Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Coordinator" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
  • Healthcare, Science and Technology and/or Civic facilities experience
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
