Job summary

A well-respected engineering firm in Allegheny County, Pittsburgh is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to coordinate mechanical aspects of commercial projects. You will be responsible for developing HVAC loads, preparing design documents, and collaborating with senior engineers. Qualifications

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate mechanical aspects of commercial or institutional projects
  • Perform routine mechanical engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures
  • Write and edit mechanical specifications, and select mechanical systems and devices
  • Utilize engineering software to develop HVAC loads, energy analysis and size/select mechanical equipment
  • Prepare construction documents for HVAC and plumbing design of buildings, including drawings, specifications and reports
  • Assist in the development, production, and issuance of BIM documentation, using the necessary Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) software
  • Work independently on small projects, and/or assist more‑senior engineers on larger projects
  • Supervise the work of Mechanical CAD Technicians, and coordinate design of assigned projects with architectural staff and other engineering disciplines
  • Take responsibility for construction contract administration requiring shop drawing review, request for information (RFI) review, field inspections, and conflict resolution
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.

    Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Mechanical Designer" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.

  • Healthcare, Science and Technology and/or Civic facilities experience
  • Revit experience is required
  • Previous HVAC experience
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • Strong Communication skills, self‑motivated, organized, attention to accuracy, detail oriented, flexible, and able to work both independently and with a project team to complete tasks
  • Teachable. Willingness to be mentored by senior‑level mechanical engineers
  • Local candidates preferred
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, and equipment selection software)
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must
