Join Siemens Mobility as a Mechanical Desk Engineer in New Castle, Delaware, and play a key role in keeping locomotive fleets operating safely and reliably. You will monitor fleet performance, support maintenance planning, and help resolve technical challenges while partnering with Siemens Customer Service teams, contractual depots, and Reliability and Service Managers. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on day-to-day rail operations in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The role supports a day-shift operation that includes weekends and holidays, and candidates must be flexible to work all shifts. The primary schedule is second shift, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday or Wednesday through Saturday.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Monitor fleet performance and equipment for Siemens locomotives at the Amtrak Mechanical Desk to identify emerging issues early and support safe, reliable operations.
  • Drive reliability and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce equipment downtime and control maintenance costs.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and Field Service Technicians to strengthen maintenance practices and improve fleet performance.
  • Provide calm, real-time phone support to end users to accelerate troubleshooting and restore equipment to service efficiently.
  • Support failure investigations and complete Root Cause Analysis reports to help prevent recurring issues and improve long-term reliability.
  • Regularly review and update maintenance practices, documentation, and troubleshooting procedures to keep guidance accurate, effective, and easy to apply.
  • Resolve product and service issues by clarifying customer concerns, determining the cause, explaining the best solution, expediting corrective action, and following up to confirm a timely and satisfactory resolution.

This posting outlines the primary responsibilities of the role but is not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned in alignment with business needs.

To thrive in this role, you have:
  • Associate’s degree in a technical field, such as electrical or electromechanical engineering, or equivalent technical maintenance and operations experience.
  • Proven ability to solve practical problems, take initiative, and adapt effectively to changing or ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to follow a structured troubleshooting process while remaining calm in complex, time-sensitive situations.
  • Strong computer skills and a willingness to learn computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to prepare administrative reports.
  • Effective communication and active-listening skills, supported by strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to quickly learn and confidently use project-specific software and online tools.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to challenge the status quo and help strengthen results and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 5%.

Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without needing current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
