Job summary

Planate Management Group is seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead and manage assigned design projects in support of VA hospital programs, ensuring adherence to PMP goals and budget. The role is based in Reno, NV with occasional travel to Seattle, WA, and requires at least five years of project design leadership and the ability to coordinate with PDT and CO to select engineers/architects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing assigned design projects consistent with the planning and design goals and standards.
• Able to read and interpret acquisition policy, regulations, and directives.
• Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Must lawfully reside in the United States and eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits).

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned design projects consistent with the planning and design goals and standards of VA; ensure capital project management processes enable on-time, within-budget completion.
• Coordinate with Project Development Team (PDT) to define project scope reflecting input from relevant departments to optimize space efficiency and life cycle cost.
• Apply project management standards to ensure timely design deliverables and adjust procedures to meet deadlines.
• Work with Project Manager and Contracting Officer to select engineers/architects within cost/time parameters; identify additional study needs.
• Oversee DOR and consultants to ensure quality design within contract cost and schedule; lead design reviews and cross-functional meetings.
• Develop design and construction standards aligned with BA sustainability goals and commissioning prior to occupancy.
