RTX, a leading aerospace and defense company, invites applications for a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern within Collins Aerospace's Mechanical Controls product line in Windsor Locks, CT. You will join a team to evaluate customer and subsystem hydraulic and pneumatic component requirements to produce compliant hardware designs for airframe and engine systems.

Designs are developed using physics-based performance models and verified with CFD and structural FEA.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related STEM and enrolled through the internship/co-op session.
  • Must have at least 45 credit hours by the start of the internship/co-op session.
  • Experience through coursework, research, or projects is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer and subsystem hydraulic/pneumatic requirements to generate compliant hardware designs for airframe and engine systems.
  • Parts operate in fluid environments (fuel, oil, air) and under demanding conditions.
  • Generate physics-based performance models (1D) and verify with CFD.
  • Perform structural analysis (FEA) on designs.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineering, Dynamic Engineering, Systems Engineering, Drafting, and Structures.

What You Will Do
  • As a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern in the Mechanical Controls product line at Collins Aerospace, you will participate on a team to evaluate customer and subsystem hydraulic and/or pneumatic component requirements to generate compliant hardware designs for airframe and engine systems.
  • Parts are designed to operate in fluid environments (fuel, oil, air), and function under challenging operating conditions.
  • Designs are done by generating physics-based performance models (1D) and verified using CFD.
  • Designs are also analyzed structurally using FEA.
  • Candidate will work within an integrated team that includes Project Engineering, Dynamic Engineering, Systems Engineering, Drafting, and Structures.
Qualifications: You Must Have
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Must have a minimum of 45 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
Qualifications: We Prefer
  • Experience with 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as UG NX, Catia, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Autodesk or equivalent.
  • Experience in CFD tools such as StarCCM+ and/or in FEA tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, or equivalent.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or Outlook).
  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.

Relocation Eligibility

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader. Salary

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
