Job summary

Collins Aerospace, a RTX business, is offering a full-time co-op in mechanical design engineering for January–July/August. You will develop aircraft mechanical cargo systems, design, integrate, and test components, and work across teams including Customer Teams, Hardware & Software Designers, and Production.

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and enrolled through internship.
  • Experience with CAD software such as NX, Catia, Creo, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Autodesk.
  • Minimum of 45 credit hours by the start of the internship/co-op session.

Responsibilities

  • Support development of aircraft mechanical cargo systems with the design, integration, and test.

What You Will Do

Immerse yourself in a full‑time, Monday-Friday co‑op session, that will run January- July/August (including the Spring semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity). As a Mechanical Design Engineering Co‑op at Collins Aerospace, you will work closely with engineers supporting the development of aircraft mechanical cargo systems with the design, integration, and test. In addition, you will be working cross‑functionally with Customer Teams, Hardware & Software Designers, Test Engineers & Technicians, Supply Chain, Production & Quality, and Field Service Engineers. Performs engineering work and applied research, development, and design for new products to ensure quality standards and functional objectives are met. Develops, designs, and tests mechanical components and systems. Resolves day‑to‑day technical problems on the production lines to minimize disruption. Participates in technical preparations for new product development and implementation to ensure new products meet the required specifications. Operates CAD software to design components. Completes drawing designs as required to facilitate the engineering process. Consults with engineers, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders on existing and potential engineering projects or products. Produces products according to specifications using the most cost effective and efficient means.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co‑op session.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software such as NX, Catia, Creo, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and/or Autodesk.
  • Must have a minimum of 45 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co‑op session.
  • Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or Outlook).
  • Experience with engineering drawings.
  • Experience working on cross‑functional teams.
  • Prior RTX internship, co‑op, or work experience.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, long‑term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective‑bargaining agreement. Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short‑term and/or long‑term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective‑bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
