By bringing together people who use their passion for purposeful innovation, Lockheed Martin protects people and solves the world’s most complex challenges. At Lockheed Martin Space in Denver, Colorado, we are seeking a Summer 2026 Mechanical Engineer intern to support the FBM Program.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the sustainment of the existing and future FBM Trident II D5 deployed fleet through Structures Engineering efforts.
  • Shape the future of the program through digital transformation, proposal development and model‑based engineering initiatives.
  • Collaborate with adjacent organizations and our government representatives.
  • Provide technical and program management experience in support of the program.
  • Support all facets of the program – cost, schedule and technical execution of scope including R&D, Production, Sustainment, Qualification and Special Investigation contracts through engineering project management.
  • Interface with suppliers and subject‑matter experts within and outside of the FBM program engineering.
Qualifications
  • Basic: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with design and/or integration of mechanical hardware.
  • Experience and familiarity with CREO.
  • Experience in mechanical design.
  • Design, qualification, and/or integration of mechanical hardware; failure investigation, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action disposition; and mechanical design or propulsion engineering experience.
Desired Skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team‑based environment.
  • Experience in engineering project management.
  • Experience with cost management, estimation generation, development of cost justifications, Basis of Estimate (BOE) generation, proposal preparation and negotiation; ability to plan multi‑year strategies.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience with mechanical solution development, design and technology trades.
  • Knowledge of hardware manufacturing processes (machining, welding, heat treatment, surface treatment, assembly, etc.).
  • Experience across the engineering development lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance.
Security Clearance

Clearance level: None required; however, ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance is an advantage.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual base salary range: $29,598 – $64,168 (varies by location). Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, long‑term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance program, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays.
