Job summary

VIAVI Solutions is seeking a skilled tooling specialist to procure, design, and manage coating tooling and related fixtures in a high-precision manufacturing environment.

You will work with cross-functional teams across engineering, procurement, and production to ensure uninterrupted coating schedules, applying solid CAD skills and PLM/PDM knowledge to release engineering drawings and manage vendor interactions.

Qualifications

• Self-direction and leadership skills a must.
• Design of complex mechanical assemblies.
• Use of basic hand tools and measuring tools.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and engineering standards.
• Understanding of basic engineering principles such as torque, pressure, mass, standard metrics and measurement systems.
• Ability to write clear and concise instructions and communications.
• Ability to get along and communicate with others.
• Basic understanding of vacuum systems, thin film coatings, and appropriate materials used in a vacuum chamber.
• High-level problem-solving skills for both mechanical and procedural tasks.
• Excellent computer skills with ability to learn and apply various company specific and general use programs.
• Knowledge of PLM/ PDM systems will be required, Teamcenter preferred.
• Experience with 3D CAD required, SolidWorks and NX preferred.
• Exhibits exceptional organizational discipline.

Responsibilities

• Procure and maintain tooling inventory, materials, drawings, and work instructions for the tooling techs to allow uninterrupted scheduled coating as much as possible.
• Managing outside vendors for tool cleaning and chamber shield treatments and coordinating receiving in materials.
• Using PLM/PDM systems (Teamcenter) to identify drawings for vendors and create material requisitions in Oracle for new parts.
• Support UCP Target Tracking System and production scheduling to minimize downtime.
• Assemble and prepare new coating tooling and support equipment, and create PCNs to integrate tools into production systems.
• Design tooling, tooling support equipment, and fixtures and release engineering drawings per VIAVI standards.
